The Railsmart Planning Wanneroo project aims to provide City of Wanneroo land-use and transport planners and urban developers – with a future-focused and sustainable urban and suburban planning tool.
In its pilot stage, the RailSmart product will be used to identify “highest-and-best” land use options which will maximise investment certainty and job growth opportunities in the northern corridor in suburbs of Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.
With the Metronet extension establishing train stations at each of these locations, the opportunity presented by RailSmart Planning is significant.
The RailSmart pilot will help our rapidly expanding City facilitate and sustain new and diverse work and recreational opportunities for its residents.
The goal is ultimately that employment options and active spaces be plentiful, and close to home.
RailSmart – despite its name is actually not about rail. What it is about - is high-tech land-use and transport planning which will help inform future urban development.
The RailSmart Planning project will proactively assist the City of Wanneroo prepare for future growth. At rollout, the RailSmart pilot will focus on urban development and planning for localities surrounding Metronet extension train station hubs.
It is envisaged that a proven RailSmart Planning tool will allow the City to make smart, informed decisions around urban development, land planning and public transit in a way that is highly efficient.
RailSmart's implementation will generate superb local work choices and amenities for residents, and maximise investment certainty.
RailSmart Partners are the team of researchers and experts from leading universities and industry bodies, such as Department of Transport, Main Roads WA and Western Australian Planning Commission who are lending their knowledge, data and input into meeting the projects objectives of a smart transport and land-use planning tool for future urban development in the City of Wanneroo.
RailSmart Planning will bring greater investment certainty to areas along the Metronet rail extension. It will also provide greater local transport access, employment and leisure choices for City of Wanneroo residents living in these northern coastal suburbs.
RailSmart Planning will create a future where communities in the City’s outlying areas are self-sustaining and vibrant, attracting a diversity of resident types, and brimming with opportunity.
The ethos around RailSmart Planning is seeking the best and most sustainable use of land and transport mechanics available in a predefined area so that issues which accompany rapid population growth and urban sprawl can be resolved in the most efficient way possible.
