The infrastructure needs improving for people living out in Yanchep and surrounding areas. With the cost fuel rising travelling to and from work is becoming very expensive. Yes car pooling and sharing cars will make it easier. However with that come disadvantages, where you are reliant on somebody else. Maybe another way is to encourage more businesses to move North
Thank you for your well considered thoughts on this! You’re right, and thankfully the Metronet rail extension of the Joondalup to Yanchep is going to do a lot to improve matters. You also make a very good point about the need for local jobs.
You’ll be happy to know this is one of the RailSmart Project’s key focuses – using technology to plan local land use and transport better. This will mean more active spaces in and around Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep and will do a lot to encourage growth in (and access to) local recreational options, amenities, services as well as local employment variety and choice.
Please continue to follow the Project’s progress – thoughts like yours are extremely helpful to us.
We need a good bus link from within the suburbs to the rail stations, not just stops on Marmion Ave. this will enable better, more frequent use for the kids and for anyone wishing to use public transport for work.
We are looking at bus routes within suburbs and how easy they are to access for the exact reasons you describe.
Our focus with RailSmart is strongly on improving transport access and options.
Please feel free to share any additional thoughts you have at any point as our researchers really want to understand the issues from a local resident perspective.
Hello Graeme, this is very valuable feedback. Perhaps the additional comments areas and choices for “other” can be made clearer in future with more specific fields for those residents you describe. A very good point, THANK YOU.
friends from The Vines have to take the bus from Ellenbrook to Bassendean and then the train to Perth. Then taking the train to Butler. a long journey…to visit my place. there is no connection from east to west. always to go to Perth first. for my friends in Two rocks it would be good to have the train till Yanchep.
This information on how your friends travel to visit you, or similar, is an example of what we are aiming to improve with better planning and more travel choices for locals.
A very BIG thank you for taking the time to give us your thoughts.
Hi Graeme, THANK YOU for taking the time to participate in the survey! Your answers to the survey questions are incredibly helpful to us and will ultimately help the RailSmart Project improve transport access for you and other residents.
Please build the train and freeway asap. Shorehaven really is a struggle to get tonand from in peak hour traffic. Make pathways to safely walk to train station through Alkimos vista also.
Hopefully too it won’t be all that long before you have more local jobs to choose from in your area too – this will mean less commuting altogether.
RailSmart is all about planning better so that jobs and opportunities DO come closer to your doorstep. RailSmart seeks to ultimately have you and your neighbours enjoying a lifestyle where you’re not having to travel quite so far to and from your places of work and leisure.
Thank you Monica for sharing your thoughts on this.
Our researchers really appreciate it – it’s one thing for us to guess at why folk don’t use public transport, it’s another to actually hear from someone on the ground.
A great many thanks for participating by giving us your valuable feedback.
I think our public transport is very good. I use it whenever possible. Look forward to therailway being extended to Yanchep
Hi Sheryl, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. It really matters to us to hear them!
Too right. The rail line extension will certainly make things better for local residents.
Please don’t hesitate to continue to share your thoughts – and a great many thanks for your interest and support!

A BIG THANK YOU for sharing your comment.
Disappointed the survey omitted seeking feedback from people with walking disabilities- who may use all sorts of ambulation except cars and bikes.

Hello, and THANK YOU for this feedback. The details really help RailSmart’s researchers and so your thoughts are deeply valued.
We certainly are aiming at addressing the very matters you point to.
The train line is thankfully on its way, and your suggestion on bridge position is helpful to us. With appreciation to you!
I would love to see the railway and freeway extended to Yanchep. It would make commuting to the city so much easier
Hi Kelly,
You’ve not got too long to wait until the railway is a reality for you!
Metronet reported Just last month that initial earthworks are expected to start in mid-2019: https://www.metronet.wa.gov.au/news-info/news/category/yanchep-rail-extension/full-steam-ahead-for-western-australias-newest-city-centre

I would use public transport more if there were more around my house. Ie a really close bus stop or train.
Thank you Monica for sharing your thoughts on this.
